New springs are the way to go. Air shocks are a band aid. If you put air shocks on a car, you lose your rear suspension. Basically the back half of the car is riding on those shocks rendering your springs useless. Coil springs support the body and shocks are supposed to dampen the springs movement. I have a set of rear coil springs I had on my 81 Malibu for about 2 months before I went to drop springs. These are almost brand new.
