I picked up molding clips for my Grand Prix and have the trim pieces from a 1979 GP, but How do the trim clips fit in place? My friend has never dealt with them before and just wanted to check on that.

Thank you

There are small studs shaped like a tiny nail all along the window perimeter. The clips will just slip over the head of this clip and lock in place.

The plastic clips usually slide on sideways and the metal ones slide straight down.

if thats your vehicle in the link than it looks like you had a vinyl roof which almost every GP had...those studs that 85 SS mentioned wouldn't have been installed because of the vinyl roof installation..

Sorry - didn't notice you had a vinyl roof. You will have to do something else to install the trim clips - small sheet metal screws may do the trick. I'm not sure it would be possible to weld on something similar in the factory way.

I'm removing my vinyl roof as well and will have the same problem so I'm thinking of using an adhesive to hold the clips in place.

I would rather have fabric roof, if I had to have the cover at all. Vinyl is just horrible looking (maybe looked nice in the first few years).

if you want a fabric roof then wouldn't you be using the same basic installation as you would with a vinyl application? You wouldn't be installing the chrome window molding with that form of installation

where did you get the clips? Im looking for some for my cutlass which had a vinyl top originally I was told you have to remove the rear glass and screw them in if it doesnt have the studs which is alot more work than I wanted to do. does anyone have an easier install for those clips if so let me know asap!

if your looking for the clips pick some up at your local recycling yard. You can get the clips at a dealer but they are kinda expensive for a nylon clip..
