I recently rebuilt a 700R4 out of a 1986 Chevy S10. After installing it in my car and running it, i've noticed a few issues.

The first thing that i noticed, was that i had no reverse. This wasn't a big deal since I could cope with it.

The second thing i noticed was that the car's a lot slower. I can be running the engine at almost 2000 rpm's before it gets going. It feels weak in every gear that i've gotten it into so far.

The third thing that i noticed was that i had no fourth gear. i've heard that putting the back of the car on jack stands and spinning the tires to about 100 mph until the trannsmission shifts should get it to work; but i have yet to try that yet.

The fourth thing that i noticed was that my torque converter doesn't lock-up. I understand that the trannsmission controls this even if i have a switch so i'm assuming that this is associated with having no fourth gear. btw, I am using a manual switch for the torque converter.

What's your engine, what's your rear end ratio, and what torque converter are you using?

Also, the lockup is determined by the gear, so if you don't go into 4th you won't lock up automatically.

the engine's from a 1991 Buick Regal. It's a series one 3800.
aside from the new engine and transmission, the car's pretty much stock so it has the 2.41 open differential and we kept the original torque converter from the S10.

how do you have the shift cable hooked up? the reverse problem is a seprate problem i think...reset your tv cable
check your shift linkage...jesse

thanks for the response, but i've tried that already.

I'm thinking that I must've done somthing wrong when I rebuilt it. but, i have no idea as to what.

was this your first 700r4 overhaul?

yeah, it'd be my first transmission overhaul ever actually, but my brother did most of the work. he's done a couple 4T60's and he's probably helped my dad with some other transmissions too.

i hate to tell you this, but i think you need to pull it and go through it again.
some of the lip seals on the apply pistons are tough to put together
the teflon seals on the input shaft are easy to mess up, are all your check balls in the right place
what book did you use?

i'm with jesse. there are too many problems to be a basic problem or adjustment. pull it, strip it, and do it again. sorry man
