Recommendation: Electric Fans

On my 87 EC, I installed 2000 Camaro efans controlled by SPAL wiring with dual relays. As mentioned earlier in this thread by another owner, I fashioned two metal plates to hold the efan bottom in-place while the upper portion is secured with a stock radiator plate. This installation is probably the easiest and straight forward coversion to electric fans.
 
Beware of upgraded alternator ratings. 250A, I highly doubt is 250 at idle.

Maybe an alternator specialist can confirm but at idle with all the accessories on, including fan is what it should be able to support.

great call out, i’ll reach out to manufacturer see if they can provide the idle amperage.

For all of the recommendations for OE fan options I see....

The usually recommended (popular) 4th GEN f-body or Dodge Intrepid fans are ~20yrs old parts if you can find them @ a wrecking yard. If basing your purchase using those models & getting new parts @ a local source (Oreillys/AutoZone/NAPA/etc....) they're most likely 'aftermarket' replacements & usually not the same manufacturer as the original spec OE part (as far as quality).

With that in mind, if pricing is comparable, why not just do aftermarket (Derale/SPAL/Flex-a-Lite/PermaCool/etc...)?

I just installed these 2 for $40 amazon 12" specials that had high review ratings, along with a dual relay kit for $20. Definitely cheaper end stuff but not bad quality. The fans were missing a mounting tab so I fabbed up a little bracket system and mounted them with some stainless strap. After some testing the car seems to be sitting around 195 at idle and around 180 while driving in 90 degree weather. Could be better with a shroud but so far so good. I've run similar set ups before and had mixed results.

Some fans pull more current from your alternator than air through the radiator, especially some of the older oem style stuff. It's hard to go wrong with the high dollar name brand kits if budget allows.

Don't skimp on the wiring job. Solid connections and thick gauge wire makes all the difference, and you should upgrade your battery - to body, engine and chassis ground as well as your + charging lead from alternator to battery.
