How's it goin guys! I'm new to the forums. I have a 1978 olds cutlass supreme with the 260 4.3 v8 in it. I just replaced plugs and wires in it now car is running rough and sputtering when i give it gas. It didn't do this before i replaced them only after i did. I don't get it can anyone help? I put in AC Delco plugs and Borg Warner plug wires. The cap, rotor, and distributor assembly were replaced a little under a year ago.

Just to make sure all the boots click on completely, also check all gaps on the sparkplugs. Even new pre-grap plugs will sometimes be off so its a good habit to get in to for all tune ups.
Re: Replaced plugs and wires now running rough and hesitates
I don't want to state the obvious but have you put the plug wires on correctly?. Two wires on the wrong plugs (you can't have only one wrong) would turn your engine into a V6.
It's also entirely possible the new plugs or wires are defective, unlikely but possible.
Double check you have the wires in the correct firing order, then disconnect each one in turn, any you disconnect that make no difference to how it runs means you have either a defective plug or wire.
If all else fails put the old plugs and wires back on and see if it returns to normal.
Re: Replaced plugs and wires now running rough and hesitates
if you are POSITIVE you have them all seated well and in proper firing order, replace the new with the old ones, start the car, make sure she is running fine, then you know it was a bad wire, if its still rough with the old qires n new plugs, its a bad plug... and if after putting the old wires back on she runs fine, replace the old wires ONE BY ONE, starting the car after each wire, and then you will know which new wire is fuct... had that same problem with my malibu, turns out one of the new cheap bosche wires was garbage...
Re: Replaced plugs and wires now running rough and hesitates
loose distributor hold down, possibly turned the dizzy a bit while swapping out the wires... my bu has a loose dizzy hold down and she shifts around a bit and a shift in the wrong direction makes her run rough almost stal out and bog on throttle... i know its not good but the bu is my beater and i am pulling that motor anyways...
Re: Replaced plugs and wires now running rough and hesitates
When I was 19 and changed wires, mixing them up, I lost my eyebrows and had short bangs for a while. With the help of a remote start switch, I was trying to figure out the problem, leaning over the engine when the mistimed spark shot a fireball out of the carb and up into my face. I believe Olds 260/307 both use firing order 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. I am a Chevy guy, so #1 on an HEI cap is clockwise one pin from the bumpout for the plugs with the bumpout itself clocked about 90 degrees from the crankshaft towards the driver. The Olds community should chime in and make sure I'm not bum-doping you.
Re: Replaced plugs and wires now running rough and hesitates
make sure that a plug didn't get cracked when you installed them. Also try pulling 1 wire at a time with the engine running to see if you can detect witch cylinder it is
