Hey ! I want to retire the 229 V6 and replace it with a 350 SBC.

My name is John and I am a newbie and real glad to be here!

From what I understand and taking a very simple approach, there are engine mounts that are bolted directly to the frame and there are brackets that attach to the motor. I am clear on this. My first question is:

1) Will I have to buy different frame mounts or just simply relocate them on the frame?

2) Will I have to buy different motor mount brackets or just simply bolt them onto the new motor?

I really appreciate your help in answering these questions and would like to thank you all in advance. Thank you. John Carroll from Clemmons NC.

Welcome!
The frame side of the mounts are available at any parts store for about $12 a piece. Just go in and say you need motor mounts for an '87 Monte SS. They will go in some different holes.
There are a couple of 'stickey' threads about V6 to SBC swaps, and they'll show where the mount needs to go.

I don't have any personal experience with the Chevy 229 V6, so I'm not sure what those mounts look like.

You'll also need to find a set of the mounts that bolt to the block. I got a set off the forum here a few months ago, and when I posted up the wanted ad looking for them, I got about 8 responses in like an hour, so there's plenty of them out there, and that should save you a trip to the wrecking yard.

Hope that helps.

What Blake said. You just need the SBC mounts and clamshells. There will be holes there for you already, just gotta find the right ones. I've got an illustration somewhere, someone on here posted one time. Basicly, you'll use three bolts on each side, the mounts bottom front hole actually hang off and can't be used. Hope this helps you and feel free to ask if you have any other questions.

229 to 350

I am actually running into this same problem. But when I called the parts store they are telling me the v6 mounts are identical to the v8 mounts. Everyone I've asked all say the same thing the 350 should slide right in and bolt right up. Well just so everyone knows that's not happening. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I'm doing the swap on a 78 malibu 4 door

You are better off buying & installing new frame mounts I just purchased new ones & they were less than $10.00 each . The originals are 20+ years old & prob. worn out .

my problem is nothing is lining up. I've shoved the 350 back as far as it will go to where it is rubbing the firewall on the drivers side and I am still needing 3 more inches for the mounts on the block to line up with the mounts on the frame

Are your mounts in the correct holes?
