Is anybody using the Eagle GT repros from Kelsey on their car? http://www.kelseytire.com/pages/preformancetires3.html I'd like to get a set for my 84 H/O that I put 3-4k miles per year on it. I've heard that some of the repro stuff from Coker isn't the best quality, and I don't want to drop $1300 on tires that are only good for looks. Wondering about tread life, out-of-round, etc. I'd normally just buy a set of BFG's, but the outline white letters look so much better on these cars.

IMO, the BFG's look a lot better and are a lot cheaper. That price is outrageous!

x2 on the BFG's. I paid $460 from Summit 2 years ago for all four of my BFG Radial T/As. $350 each is ridiculous!

Some things to consider:

How well did the tire perform when they were actually in production? From what I remember the tires weren't that great

Has Coker improved on the tread design, compounding, belts?
Maybe it's not so much "bad" quality is that they didn't make any improvements, so that re-popped polyglas or bias-ply is going to act just like the original, slicker than a pig in oil in the rain.

You are mostly paying for "the look"; basically from Coker's catalog.

Most of these aren't driven 3 ~ 4K / yr. They're, again, for the look.

But if it's what you want go for it.

here's a comparison I did with original tires.

Well I'm buying a set of the Eagles. I know they are expensive and they are just there for the look. The car isn't driven hard so hopefully tire wear won't be much of an issue.

Good choice. You can't beat the look of originality in my book. The old compound was pretty crappy by today's standards. According to 69 H/O who did a write up on these a while ago on Oldspower.com, I believe the new Eagles have an improved chemistry.

Hey guys Coker makes tires for the purist . You change one tread and you dont have a GT tire . I have seen half used GT's go for well over the $1000 range and was offered more $ for the 900 miles set I have on shelf than the remakes are going for .

These tires did fine back in the day . Were first of the stiff side wall technology .

I have run at least 8 set of GT"s on my Gbodys and had no issues other then they don't like wet roads . And mine never sees rain

If you haven't ordered these yet, call Rusty on these, his number is 816-654-3400. He is the tire guy for the Pure Stock and FAST drag crews, and works with Kelsey. You can possibly save some money over list by calling him instead of buying direct. Nothing shady, he's a good guy.

This is his facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Rusted-Ti ... 5286847316

Just got them this week. Yeah, he's a good guy, shipped them as soon as he got my money order. Just took a while for me to let loose with the money. Quite a bit cheaper than the prices quoted above, but still pretty salty.
