So I bought a 1988 Chevy K1500 with a 5 speed and a blown up engine. I have a .040 over 400 SBC with a RPM Airgap intake, headers, roller rockers, and a set of the old G2 Trickflow Twisted Wedge heads bolted to it. I'm gonna leave the engine carbed with the Edelbrock 750 it has now and stuff her in the truck. The cam it's getting is a Comp XE274 hydraulic flat tappet, yeah I know it's a 4x4 pick-up, but it's the smallest cam I have laying around and it ran awesome in my old Suburban. We had it dynoed when I built it 5 years back it made 494hp @5700 and 521tq @4100 so it should haul whatever fine. I have two XE274 cams- one running the Comp lifters, and the other matched to a set of Rhoads lifters. Question I have is how much "clicking" do the Rhoads lifters make? Will it be annoying and sound like loose rockers? I have run the Rhoads lifters before a couple of times and like the way they work, but I've only run them in circle track class that stipulated hydraulic cams only and 15" vacuum @1000 rpm. So I've never heard them on a street vehicle with mufflers, especially something that will be driven almost daily. Anyone running them or know someone who is and know what they sound like? Thanks guys.

I have a set of rhoades in my 350, they do get a little annoying. I used to worry my valves needing to be adjusted but im used to them, they sound slightly different then an improperly adjusted valve. They sound like...its hard to explain definitly a metalic sound but it also has a sound like you stepping in mud, its just got a sort of liquid sound to it. You can kinda hear them when your inside the car at idle, and you can definitly hear them outside of the car. The one thing that really annoys me is everyone going "you have a valve tap, go get that checked out." And then i have to explain to them, that these are rhoades liftes, and that they ae supposed to tick. I must have explained it to several thousand people already and i had the lifters for 3 months.

Iday they sound similar to roller rockers

noisier but nothing to worry

Well maybe I'll have to give them a try, it will help the truck get a little better mileage and help with a little more low end power. Hell with the dual 2 1/2" outlet pipes and a Flowmaster I probably won't hear 'em anyway. Thanks
