hey guys i have here a challenge to myself to achieve a 12 second goal out of a L69 yes i could swap but no fun! after modding my 305 over time i never got a chance to make passes down the track so last night i made 4 passes but before i go on to times ill give you all a mod list...

L69 305
stock bore stock heads
lunati voodoo cam
weind warrior intake
holley 600 secondary vac.
eldebrock TES headers
double roller chain
160 stat
comp self align rockers
HEI distributor

i may be missing a few parts here and there but thats the main part of the motor thats modded now lets move on to drivetrain...

stock 200r4 (now slipping)
stock stall
7.5 rear open 3.73(one wheel peel)

The car itself have been on a small diet remember its a 86 monte carlo ss i havent weighed it yet but im curious to see where its at....

rear bumper taken off(behind bumper cover)
no wheel wells
a/c components off the motor
a/c condensor taken out
car currently on corvette rallies (which ima trade for welds soon)
and little stuff to shed small weight like headlight conversion etc

now lets move with times....ran last night as the car is described give or take and these are my results...

first pass just arrived at track car running at 175 after driving there from home didnt let cool down still have my heavy speaker box in the trunk and tool bag etc
r/t .374
60' 2.193
330 6.667
1/8 10.293
mph 68.95
1000 13.294
1/4 15.812(trans slipping a little bit)
mph 89.65

okay wasnt what i expected but fuel was getting low i let the car sit for a few minutes added two gallons off cam2 110 race fuel advanced the distributor a hair and went for my second pass...
r/t .449
60' 2.234
330 6.346
1/8 9.795
mph 69.41
1000 12.908
1/4 15.578 (trans slipped bad into third)
mph 84.70

okay that pass amazed me how gas and timing can knock time down dramatically so i let the car cool all the way down check fluids removed all the weight in my car (speaker box, tools, fluid bottles, etc) still running race gas and trans still slipping
r/t .228
60' 2.241
330 6.389
1/8 9.765
mph 73.18
1000 12.625
1/4 15.020
mph 92.94

now that pass i didnt expect but was excited cuz i was so close to my night goal of 14.99 or faster all comments welcome advice as well and ill be posting pics later today of the car and timeslips

Road to 12's = NOS and fix your transmission.

A slipping trans is really going to hold you back, as well as a converter that isn't matched to your cam. Replacing the Qjet with a aftermarket carb was just a waste of funds that could have been better spent elsewhere. It is often hard to get a correct TV cable adjustment with a aftermarket carb, causing trans problems.

thats the plan... ima build the rear and send the trans out so thats out the way for future transplants

i was thinking the same on carb situation i might see if i can run across a non ccc quadrajet if not ima upgrade to a 650 double pumper and when i send the trans out ima get a 2000rpm stall since i have everything setup for up to 5500rpm range

Good luck on your 12's quest - it can be done but it won't come cheap. I hope you have the 704 or 705 cam and you will need a lot more than a 2000 stall converter. You are currently just under 200 hp and you will need 300 for your goal. You are going to need a good set of heads that will breath but work on the small bore. Some more gear will also help.

build a rear end, short gear (4.56 or 4.88) slicks, spool or posi. More stall bigger cam, better heads and single plain intake. Throw on the bottle and let er rip. Would be a bad idea to get a set of tubular rear control arms and the extended lower rear brackets to help with the instant center
