Hello to all. I know someone has posted something about these in the past but here we go. I am in the process of cleaning up the engine bay area. Engine runs rough right now. I have been thinking or either rebuilding or replace with same q-jet on the 307. My thing is where do you recommend of either buying the rebuild kit or carb? I have the 17084254 q-jet on my 86 cutlass supreme. I appreciate the info and look forward to all the comments or concerns on this.

I plan on going with Mark from Quadrajetpower.com next month to rebuild my Buick 350 carb. I have heard a lot of good things about his rebuilds and I'll let you know how mine runs if you haven't gone a different route by then.

Better make sure the kit you bought is compatible with today's fuels. It probably isn't.....

I have seen the kit for mine from a another G-Body enthusiat. He had bought his thru carbkitsource.com. Another route is just finding a reputable person or shop to rebuild it. I figure if I rebuild it myself I can save a little more money for other odds and ends for my car.

Quadrajetparts.com or Cliffs performance are good places to get quality rebuild kits. A rebuild kit from the chain store is going to be low quality generic crap. Also never buy or trade your original carb torwards a commercially remanufactured or rebuilt carb such as Autozone, NAPA, Holley, JET, etc. Those places butcher Qjets from OEM specs to generic specs, use improper parts, cobble mismatching qjet parts together, and lots of other horror stories. They are a real disservice to the hobby. Best thing is to send your original factory carb to a competent rebuilder or buy a quality kit and search for the required and discontinued tools for rebuilding a E4ME.

I have had Cliff Ruggles rebuild two different Q-Jet carburetors for me and both worked very well. Both went on pretty basic 455 engines with RA-IV cams and the carbs were just as quick as a 850 Demon that I also ran at times. Cliff does great work!

Yeah but the Demon was shinier....

Well, you couldn't really see much with the air cleaner on it anyway. I'm sure there are probably others that do good carburetor work but I had great success with Cliff. And in addition for you Pontiac guys on the board Cliff is very knowledgeable in regards to building "Pontiac" engines incase you want one for your "G" body Pontiac.

You do know that DoubleV was joking, right?
