Im looking to find out how many people here actually use rod bolt stretch gauges? Im dropping in the pistons for my 496 stroker build and I have Scat forged H-beam rods with the 8640 12 point cap screws. I dont have a stretch gauge and I have heard some people dont even use them just be carefull to torque each one. The engine is a .060" 454 2 bolt main that wont be spun past 6000 and no nitrous. Occasional track use but mostly street fun. I have to call Scat tomarow to get the torque/stretch specs before they go in.

When you call them I am sure they will tell you it is very important to tighten the bolts to the stretch spec not just a generic torque spec, torque can be affected my many variables, the lube used, cleanliness of the threads, and for sure the accuracy of the torque wrench used, however bolt stretch is always EXACT, as long as you set the gauge up correctly you will know for sure they are all done properly
