Pistons should have a notch or dot on the top to indicate forward orientation

Rods

I don't have bumps on my rods

But since you didn't assemble them yet, take the rods to the machine shop and have them grind off the casting ridge on the beam sides! Also have them machine a slot at the top and bottom rod bearing journal. (0.50" WIDE and only 0.010" - 0.012" DEEP)

i don't quite remember, but i'm pretty sure that mine, on the big end, had a chamfer on one side and the other was flat. IIRC the flats went together. i do remember that they only bolted in one way.

SBO Rod's Install

Thanks KCEE442, they are for my pump gas SBO stroker (4.125 x 3.500) i'm building for my 85 442.

Also have your rods Shot peened, if you didn't already. Reason to polishing and deburring the rods is to reduce the height of the casting mark running along the rob beam and smooth the beam's side. A polished metal surface is less prone to cracks than a rough one. DON'T RE-USE your old rod bolts! The reason to cut them notches on both sides of the rod since Olds motors actually trap oil on the rod bearing surface. Under hard use, the oil don't leave the bearing surface, so it overheats and will cause bearing failure.
