Rubber gasket on lightning rods

how the hell do you install this thing without tearing it up? Even with the balls off for the shifter it's tough.

Anyone done it? Any tricks I'm missing? Don't want to ruin the one I have.

Position the levers so they are in line. The rubber gasket will fit around all 3 levers without damage.

Tried that.... With the bend on the main lever it feels like it's about to tear so I didn't go thru with it because I got scared lol
