I thought I read that going from stock power steering on a G-Body to a S-10 manual steering box cuts 45 pounds off the car.

i just did this swap...didn't weight the manual box but i can weigh the PS box and pump tonight if you'd like...PM me to remind me if you want me to

your arm is maybe 1/4" longer...i've heard swapping them is better tho i did not because i didn't have anything big enough to remove the socket.....i've not moved the car since install b/c i was also install headers, intake, etc and have yet to complete....hoping to complete this weekend but work is cracking the whip so we'll see

There is a kit from Summit racing, that is where I seen it. I am not sure if that applies to a stock piece or if it applies to their part for weight reduction. The one from Summit comes with everything needed to install and I think it's about $400..

PS box, pump, lines, brackets everything that was on the car minus fluid was 46.5lbs....i would guess you'd get at least another 1.5lbs of fluid....like i said i forgot to weigh the manual box before i put it on there cause i'm a moron but i would venture to say its in the 25-30lb range....probably a 15-20 lb weight reduction for around 100 bucks

thanks for the info...cant seem to find one in the local yards

I'm suppose to pick one up tomorrow that i found on craigslist for $30. I'll try and remember to weigh it and let you know

I was thinking of doing the s-10 manual box swap to my car, but cant remember the advantages.

Is it just the weight advantage? What about the steering ratio, is it tighter or make more sweeping turns at full lock. Is it that much different that power? I wanted to do it because I dont like the "floaty" feeling of the power steering.

Sorry to kinda steal the thread, but figured this is better than starting another of the same topic. 🙂
