And you could get a few hundred out of that 305 if you just power wash it and sell it as a whole. It runs fine, just needs a freshen up. No point to waste any more money or time on it. I'd grab the starter, quadrajet carb, and distributor off of it, and the factory air cleaner and sell off what's left. Oh, and the throttle cable brackets. Those can be hard to find. All that stuff will work on a pre-vortec 350.
i think i just have a 2bbl carb, not really worth i dont think, and i might keep the engine for a little after the swap just to make sure i dont need anything off of it.

By the descrition, it sounds decent. Ask for more pics. And ask if it's been bored over or not, if it's all stock on the inside, etc. Don't be turned away if he seems to not know much about the motor. Sometimes that's half the fun when you get it, if you do. Trying to figure out what it is, how old it is, etc.
 
Just remember to shop around, don't get stuck on one motor.

Oh, is yours a two barrel? I thought it was a qjet. Derp. My bad. Yeah, if it's a two barrel, just grab the starter and the throttle brackets. And good idea, keep the thing around. Set it on an old tire or something so you won't smash the oil pan having it sit on the ground.

Coolio. It is only a two bolt main, but you can still put some power through it. Stock style 4 bolt mains (there is one on there, https://stlouis.craigslist.org/pts/6032722919.html ) can carry a bit more power. I recommend building a solid foundation that works really well naturally aspirated first, before you apply juice to it. Master rebuild kits with pistons, rings, bearings, gaskets (some have cams with em too) are between 3 and 700 dollars. Three angle valve job is around 100-200, it varies from shop to shop. But I'm getting ahead of myself. It seems like a good deal, just keep it in mind. Don't commit yourself to one engine, as I said.
 
For a new 350 GM crate engine this is the best current price I have found and with a 4 barrel carb and headers it made 287 horsepower when Hot Rod recently dynoed one.

By the time you buy a used engine and have everything checked out and then pay for machine work from a machine shop that won't screw you the money adds up quick and nothing against the whole learning aspect but with no experience assembling an engine you are better off doing an R & R on a long block.
I have seen a people attempt rebuilds (many on here) and either with lack of knowledge or trying to cut corners because of lack of funds they end up breaking and it ends up costing them the entire build and they either start over or give up.

So with that crate engine would all of the pullies and stuff be the same as the 305? would the transmission also work?

Ok im not just asking you but everyone, do you think parting out a 1990 buick century would be profitable and worth it? my grandma has this century that she dosnt drive because the brake lines were rotted (hmm seems like my grandparents never change brake fluid) and recently a tree branch fell and went through the windshield, she said i can part it out as long as i can also get someone to pick up the shell afterwards. if you are wondering she bought a new scion XD because the brake shop told her the lines were unrepairable.

Not many people would be interested in a car like that, let alone parts. You might be able to sell it to a guy who races demo cars. There is a FWD class that these cars often appear in.
