Story goes that this stopped around 8000 on 2.75 gears with a T5. The story is phenomenal; he even found the builder of the one-off engine.

With 2.75 gears they might have been running in 3rd or 4th at 195mph

With the Turbo cars it is all about how much boost you are willing to run, but the secret to top speed for a straight Normally Aspirated car is RPM, RPM and RPM.

Two cars that both make 500 HP. One makes 500 HP @ 5000 RPM, one makes 500 HP at 9,000 RPM. In a drag race the 5000 RPM car kills the 9,000 RPM car (because it has almost twice the torque), but for top speed, its usually no contest, the 9,000 RPM car is almost always faster, because it can run an "easier" gear ratio. The other thing to consider is that on the low traction salt, high torque can break traction and kill you.

Been there but not during the race. Its on my bucket list also. 😎 So much to do and so little time.

It might just actually happen. The engine guy is on board, me and my buddy wrenching, and our dentist buddy might be in as a shoe and money man. My uncle was in the stock car game for a long time, and knows how to get sponsors. I found out today that you have to license at 130 in the standing mile and 150 (unknown distance) before you can go after the hat. The engine is built for B class. It's a "high nickel" 68-69 351 block punched to 421 cubes, .750ish cam, Dart or AFR iron heads, Victor intake, 14:1 with a Dominator- did 627 without the nitrous, almost 1000 with on the dyno. They never got the nitrous to hook on the salt; maybe we can with a progressor or something? Maybe it needs stiffer valve springs or a roller cam? Maybe......just maybe.....
