Sandy - Oh man...

I have lived in and around NC all my life. I could never understand why anyone would build a house on a barrier island, such as the NC Outer Banks. Geological history has shown that these islands are not stationary. They move around, back and forth, and new inlets are made after every hurricane. Why people build paved roads, bridges, towns, and especially houses in such a storm prone area is just insane. And, when a hurricane does come along and wipe out a few hundred homes, the insurance companies cry to the US government for disaster relief....and the tax payers end up footing the bill to rebuild them right back.....just absurd.
