I sent the seller this message this AM. We will see if there is a response and whether he is defensive or not. LOL
I came across your Malibu and it looks like a pretty nice car. I have a couple of G body Malibus, but can never resist the temptation to pick up another if the cards are right. I do have a few questions/ concerns, though…
THE ONLY YEAR WITH A CHROME GRILL. I have seen some 81 and later cars with black grills, but I have a 79 2 dr. and an 83 station wagon with a chrome grill… Can you clarify what you mean there?
VELOUR BUCKET SEATS (SS) WITH CONSOLE, VERY RARE, HAD TO BE SPECIAL ORDERED AS ALL 2DR'S WERE BEING PHASED OUT. These seats do not look correct for a 1981 Malibu. They appear to be out of a previous model A body or possible Camaro. I’m not sure what your reference to “SS” is in regard to the console. Do you have any photos of the console?
UNLIKE A BENCH SEAT CAR, THE PASSENGER BUCKET SEAT OF THIS BOLTS FURTHER UP TO MAKE EASIER ACCESS OF GETTING IN THE BACK - THE EASIEST WAY TO KNOW IF A TRUE (SS) SINCE EMBLEMS OF WERE NOT ALLOWED BECAUSE CHEVY WAS PUSHING THEIR MORE PROFITABLE CAMARO DESIGN. My 79 2 dr. was originally a 60/40 split bench seat car. Years back I replaced the original 60/40 seat with bucket seats out of a 1981 or 82 Monte Carlo. No modification was made to the seat mounting locations.
ROLLER CAMMED '79 267 To the best of my knowledge, roller cams were not offered from the factory in SBC engines until the late 80’s. I believe some of the TBI engines started using them around that time. My 79 2 dr originally had a 267 v8 from the factory. It got yanked asoon after I bought it. Due to the fact that I was a broke kid, and I only had the bare 350 engines and a set of 461 “camel hump” heads, I tore the 267 down to use all of the bolts to assemble the 350. There was no roller cam present when I tore my 267 apart…
IT'S CLEAR TO SEE IT HAD BEEN A 4BL INTAKE FROM A LITTLE SILICONE SHOWING AT FRONT OF INTAKE BUT REPLACED WITH 2BL INTAKE. I would venture to guess that the 2 barrel intake is original and was pulled and resealed some time in the past due to an oil leak, but I guess anything is possible .
NO FRAME, FENDER OR FLOOR RUSTALTHOUGH WEAK ON THE UNDERNEATH OF A DOOR. Do you have any other pictures or can you provide a little more information on this?
According to the VIN number in the ad, this was originally a V6 car. You mention that you think that the engine is either a 1981 350 or a 79 267, so I assume you have the casting number off the block. Could you provide this casting number? Also, could you provide the VIN stamped on the pad on the passenger side behind the alternator? This would answer whether the engine came in the car or not.
