I'm finally starting a build thread. This is the car "I had to have" at 18, and it threw a rod after I made my first car payment! It has been a here & there kinda project ever since. Right now I basically seldom work on my car, life keeps me to busy, but now when I do...I will document and share my progress with the world. I live in Wisconsin, and plan to stick within the law on my build(at least for the most part), there are a few thing that are illegal around here(such as shaved door handles) that are of interest, but we'll see. A few thing's are for sure; NO big hood scoops, NO big block, NO NOS, NO racing stripes, and NO Candy paint, Big wheels...maybe someday, but I am very selective about what I like(and I love Tony's 22" Iroc's!!!), but for now my stock SS wheels have new tires and I will roll them with pride.
I have some pretty serious mods in mind, but we all dream. My 86' SS was a true Wisconsin rust bucket when I bought it 10 years ago. Has solid frame rails, but the rear quarter panels were very rotted, as well as the floor.

I few things the future will hold:

A/C Delete heater system.
Custom floor boards with exhaust channels.
GP trunk cross brace.
Dual Power Bucket seats.
Lots of polished goodies under the hood.

I don't want to let all the cats out of the bag at once, but I'll just say that there are some other things in mind.

I guess I should start with some of the oldest digital photos I have, then work my way towards more current images.

Here's a classic interior pic from a few years ago:

I've been looking for some older pics that show how bad the rear quarters were, the only pics I have of that far back are not digital and my scanner is not currently working(maybe I'll scan some after re-installing the software)(and maybe I won't, because I believe pretty much all of us have seen rotted quarters before). All the rear metal work is now completed.

Here's an engine compartment pic from a couple years ago:

That's a 350sbc I bought running with over $1500 of build receipts, I picked it up for $400. Edelbrock Performer RPM cam & intake, 1.95 valve heads. I'm not half the engine mechanic that I am a fabricator, so that's pretty much the scope of my knowledge about the engine, other than I also know it runs well, and has an mildly aggressive chop to the idle.

Here is what I've been currently working on.

I'm making exhaust channels that run through the floor in the back seat, this way I can actually tuck my pipes up under my car. The exhaust scrapped at the gas station on my Cutlass every time I pulled in, I'm not dealing with that in my SS. There are some more pics of the floorboard progress in my photo album.

Notice that the top of the exhaust channel replaces the seat mount in that back corner, it has been painstakingly installed at the exact height that the seat mount was, so that the seat can mount right on top. I just do not have the studs in place yet in this pic.

Looks sweet!

I never knew that shaved handles were illegal in WI, that's interesting, there's no laws against them here in MN.
Doesn't matter much to me, I've never been a fan of them, but hey, that's just me...

Keep up the good work!

Very cool I like the floors for the tucked up exhaust I think it'll look really nice when it's done. How is the passenger bucket seat going to fit after you raised the floor?

The seat sits perfectly on there.

I did have to raise my seat-belt mounting hole 1". When I did that I just cut out the whole seat belt backing plate, welded in replacement piece of 16 gauge, and the re-attached the backing plate 1" higher, and more secure than ever before.

From the underside, the hacking starts just behind the drive-shaft loop mounting plates. The drive-shaft safety loop was in no way effected by the modification.

The channel is up 3" from the back seat foot well, and out 5" from the center trans hump. It's really not too drastic, and I think that in very little time(after it's installed) the carpet will beat down and contour fairly well. I will be running a piece of used carpet I picked up, it's damn nice 87' Regal Limited ultra plush.

Before things move along any further with this thread, I would like to dedicate a special thanks to all you guys who have build threads. You have all been an inspiration to work on my car. Keep up the good work guys.

That's good. The carpet should form over the modified floor nicely. If anything it'll be too large and you'll cover it up with the sill plate
