Wasn't exactly sure whether to post this with the Monte SS guys or here so I'll start here. I'm looking for some direction on the correct placement of the seat spacers. Bought some tracks and was happy to receive the hardware. Unfortunately, the Service manual only makes the reference "be certain to pay attention to the location of spacers and reinstall in the same location".

Well then, I would have if I would have been the one taking the stuff apart but I wasn't and therefore I'm looking for a little direction so I don't need to reinvent the wheel. The photo shows what I have. I may need more or different stuff but I'm really curious as to what the OE positions for the spacers is.

I assume the spacers are placed inbetween the seat base and the seat track to correct the way the seat sits in the car. Surely half the people on this site have either replaced their carpet or replaced seats with something else. If anybody has the spacer key, I would appreciate a peek. ...

Scott,
I pulled the passenger side seat. It has 4)- 5/16"spacers. I didn't look at the driver side, but I assume that both seats are the same. Just in case, I'll look at the driver side as well.
I suppose the extra wide spacers are for either a long legged person, or a short person that needs to able to see over the steering wheel...

Thanks Jack!

How much money did you find under the seat? Was there a build sheet perhaps?

Interesting enough, I found a reference in the parts catalog today for two part numbers, but this reference was different, it had the dimensions, in milimeters, &$#!!@##&^ but had them just the same. (probably why they call these Metric cars, due to they were the first GM cars to transition completely from English to metric).

So I did the decipher and the two part numbers offered were half inch and as you stated, five sixteenths. Still don't know what drove one size over the other but I guess I don't really care at this point. If I was guessing, I'd say that power seats (power adjusters) has something to do with it but that's just a guess.

Any way, thanks everyone, hate to be anal but the devil is in the details. ...

Thanks again, ...Scott...   🙂

 No money found.. 🙁 it's been picked clean. The build sheet was found many years ago, and is tucked away with all my pertinent documents. It was under my back seat.

I still find it odd that GM went over to metric. Fortunately, I worked on VW and Porsches prior to 'merican cars, so I have collected some metric tools over the years. Also a few British cars, but they don't count.

Where did those tall spacers come from if GM only offered 1/2" and 5/16"?
