I am sorry if this has been answered but I can't seem to find it anywhere..
I have an 86 el Camino with a 305. No smog stuff. I am wanting a serpentine set and I have found a 1997 sbc in a truck. Will this work? I still use a/c. I have read everything that others have posted about other years but nothing about newer models. This 1997 motor has the alt and a/c on the same sides as my 86. It is a complete motor and if it will work I can take it all except motor..$50

I made this swap using a 1992 S Blazer. I think on the full size truck you will run into hood clearance issue and I don't think it will bolt on.
Try to find S trucks with TBI and as I recall Caprices with SBC

He's talking about the Vortec (96-up) setup like this.....

Not the older TBI front accessory drive like this....

I don't really know if it would fit or not. Do Vortec heads have accessory bolt holes that other, later model SBC heads don't have?

More information is always better, what is the year/make/model of truck, and is it the stock engine?

You are correct Tex.. The first pic is the one I am looking at..
I know all about the V6 and earlier V8 tbi and tpi so no need to explain that those will work but thank you.
All I know about the truck is that it is a 1997 chevy 1/2 ton with the original motor.
I did talk to the guy today and he will sell the whole thing for $100. He knows one of the heads is bad cause the guy ran it hot. He said he would check it over after I get it out to make sure the block is good and double check both heads.. He is a mechanic that I have used for 20+ years so I can trust him. He is also going to help me build it up as well. If all is good.

What years and what trucks did the early serentine where you used the alt. to tighten the belt. Flat belt for the water and alt off the crank pully and a V belt for the power steering. I have used some on some I think 80 trucks and I saw one on a monty SS.

Well I guess I will just have to try it and see if it will work or not. I got one more place to ask a guy about doing it. His dad said he has changed a lot of them to serpentine.

I went with the throttle body set up and can send some pics if you want. My gut is the stuff in top pic will not bolt up to SBC

Not to try and change your mind, but the 88-92 f-body setup is more of a straight forward addition than the 96-up vortec.
