YESTERDAY MY 81 CUTLASS STALLED ON ME...UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I NOTICED FUEL LEAKIN FROM THE JETS AND DA BOWLS...PUT 2 AND 2 TOGETHER AND CAME UP WIT
THE ANSWER I HAD A FLOODED CARB BUT THE FLOAT LEVEL IS SET RIGHT SO IM THINKING THAT THE FUEL PRESSURE IS TOO HIGH CAUSE THE CARB TO FLOOD THE ENGINE...IS THERE A WAY TO SET THE PUMP PRESSURE ON A MECHANICAL PUMP...IF NOT WHAT COULD BE CAUSING THE CARB TO FLOOD ?

As far as mechanical pump goes, it is a set pressure. You can buy a regulator to regulate the pressure down. What kind of setup is it?

its a 307 olds with a holley 600 4 barrel...just a normal mechanical fuel pump...u think i may have the fuel needle on the carb out too far i was messing with it before this happened

I would assume that may be it, you shouldn't need to regulate the pump in that situation.

yea...ima start it up 2morro an see if dat helps at all...thanks dude

Check your gas tank vent and make sure it is not pluged. Gas has a natural tendency to build pressure with heat and as the heat rises during the day and the gas tank vent line pluged the pressure in the tank will rise and push gas passed the pump to the point of overflowing the carb. I had this same thing happen to my truck. It has a holley 600 and mech pump. The vent was clogged and pushed gas through the carb and flodded it. I put a vented gas cap on and problem was solved.

yeah i had been meaning to update you guys i jus been kinda busy...but yeah youre right on i removed the back plate and checked the float needle it look like a small piece of rubber was stuck in it so i cleaned it off real good and am going to place a fuel filter on her...nope dint have one...but in the midst of that my starter died and its been wet out so hopefully tomorrow i kan get under there and get everything going and that shoulld solve the problem...thanks alot to you all man you guys know your stuff ...thanks
