so i got my car from a friend and she said it ran great then it broke down on her boyfriend. well i tore into it and found the timing gear on the cam was nearly round and had no teeth. i replaced that did full tune up and the car is so gutless! like it has a horrible miss. any ideas what could be causing this? car doesnt make qny weird noises or burn any fuids. but if while driving i mash the pedal trans down shifts and it revs and sounds like i should be doing 100 mph instead of 25 mph. car honestly feels like something is dragging but rolls nice and smooth nothing appears tobe dragging. im stumped

give some more detail.. year make model of car. all stock? or aftermarket transmission and engine??? sounds like a transmission issue to me but i'm no mechanic.

oh yea it drives nice while in drive it just lacks power. so i dont think its the transmission but i may be wrong

How gutlass we talking? You know they are only like 110hp with like 220ftlb of torque or something like that. You should be expecting old 4 cylinder performance out of it. Not v8 performance. Do you actually hear a miss?

Well it is only a 260ci. You can fix it by takeing the engine out of the car and putting it in a dumpster that would make it better. Really the motors didnt really have a ton of power they were built to just be driven they really cant get out of ther own way in my opinion. I junked mine and went with the 455ci BBO and it is much more driveable. Im not a big fan of the 260 if you hadnt picked up on that by the way

im talking barely gets out of its own way. yea i hear and see the miss motor shakes bad ill try to get a video of it

Go find a used Olds 350 or 403 and bolt it in. They're still out there and they're cheap. Do NOT spend any time or money on that 260...there is no point. Even a 1980-85 307 would be a step up.
