I just bought a shallow mount P3 for the monte. Im not real big into car audio so all im going for is good bass. My question is whats a good blueprint for a box for my trunk. The sub is going in the smaller space directly behind the back seat. I want my amp to be able to be mounted somewhere on the box. If anyone has pics of their setup or any ideas for it that would be great. I know someone is gonna tell me to get a better sub but im really not looking to wake up the neighbors. I want to get the most out of this sub as possible. Any help/info is greatly appreciated!

There's really no magic box, especially if you do sealed (which is the sound I prefer). Just stay between the manufacturers minimum and maximum sizes and obviously make it deep enough for the sub. Putting pillow stuffing will help to make the sub think the box is slightly larger than it is.

Ported or bandpass boxes help make the box louder, but they do it at the expense of sound quality. They basically make the sub louder within a narrow frequency spectrum and sacrifice the other frequencies out of the tuned bandwidth.

Thanks for the info. Im not very experienced with subs and up until about a week ago I was against putting one in my car because of all the *ssh*les that cant turn theirs down.

I know what you mean. I have been into car audio since my first car but people rarely knew that about me since I don't brag about it around town to reduce the theft risk, and only crank it out on the highway. I ALWAYS turn it down after 9pm and when going in/out of subdivisions. Also, a properly installed, and Dynomatted vehicle can be quiet on the outside while cranking it on the inside.

Here's the info you should need:

Like I said above, I personally prefer a sealed box because they have the most well-rounded smoothest bass. What amp are you going to power it with?

Thanks for the additional info! My car isnt dyna matted yet thats kinda why I dont want a huge system, people dont realize how rediculous it sounds when their whole car is rattling!

I had a 10" Kicker Solo Classic in a small sealed box tucked up against the drivers side quarter in that little nook... Sounded pretty good, the I changed the box and put it right behind the seat.. mucho better... then.. I sold it to a friend who put it in a K-Car..... had a JL 500.1 amp, didn't sound too bad..

After that, I had a 10" Kicker L5 in a ported box behind the seat, and another JL 500.1 amp.

The next set up is 2 12" DC Audio Lvl 3's, ported box, that's up against the back of the seat, 2000w mono block amp, and a 900w 4 channel amp for the speakers.. (all brand new Crunch amps I got for doing a brake job..), plus hyfonics zeus components (6.5") in the kick panels, and above the rear arm rests.

I also had, 3 15" Kicker L7's, in a ported box, I can't remember the amp off hand, I know it was a Kicker, just not the size/model..... That was ridiculous...

But all my boxes were built loosely around factory specs.. I wouldn't be surprised if you couldn't find a small sealed box that would work for your set up, the first box I had with my Solo Classic was a kicker box, looked nice, and sounded fairly decent.

i have 2 12 inch p2s in a bandpass box in my monte with a punch 200 dsm amp and it dont sound bad at all

there are bass boxes and full set ups for small trucks like s10's and the like. i know at the best buy by my house sells 12" subs in thin boxes designed to sit behind truck seats and still make some good bass. but if i was to get a sub and amp for my elky the most i would need is a 600w amp with a decent 10" sub or even a 8" bazooka tube. i dont wanna rattle down the street, because my engine makes enough noise as it is. i just need enough to make the system sound good.
