If you are looking for a 1970`s through 1980 Chevrolet and GM cars .I believe a ratchet shiftier came in the Trans Am ,Z-28 and possibly other performance cars Of that time period. I have been thinking about do this to my 1981 El Camino SS .With a 290 HP 350 crate engine and Turbo 350 trans,

Any aftermarket shifter will look "closer to stock" if you can add a stitched shifter boot. Leather (or fake leather) would look the most believable in an older car I think. A friend of mine made his own out of suede for his former Mazda.

I used a Lokar Muscle Car shifter in my El Camino. It looks like the 60s 4 speed shifter Chevy used in Corvettes and other performance cars. The shift lever was also used for automatics in the 70s. My brother a new Nova in 74 that was a 350/350 that had the shifter.

recently had my dash, door panels and trim wrapped , new leather seat covers on my stock 1978 El Camino SS , the leather shifter boot found on ebay under $10 will be having the console covered next along with a new radio
