Bought a new shifter lever from GBody parts. Works great, however, the U clip retainer does not want to go into place.

There were no instructions in the box. Any help?

You talking about the big azz "staple" clip? I'm going to assume an Olds or Buick style T-handle.

They're usually spread out a bit. This works for me- start one side in the T- handle hole making sure to fully seat the handle on top of the shift handle. The idea is to align the groove on the chrome handle to align with the holes/staple location. The staple is what locks the T-handle to the chrome handle. Then you sort of have to push that staple to one side to start the other leg of the staple into the hole. Kinda a PITA, but it's do-able. Then, push it in but I advise, NOT ALL THE WAY IN. It's better IMO to leave a tiny bit sticking out in case you have to get back in there. If you push it all the way in like the factory did it, it's a real PITA to get out if you ever need to.
