Shifting hard

I have an 88 Cutlass Supreme Classic with the stock overdrive transmission and when I put the transmission in reverse the car jerks hard into reverse is my transmission going bad? What could be my problem?

i cant remember if the 200r4 has a vacuum line from the intake to the trans or not, but when my th350 starting shifting hard into reverse that was the problem for me

yes i think it is

more then likely your idle is to high if is over 1000 rpm then it can cause it so just idle it down to like 800 or so.
