I need to ship a rear end (drum to drum) from central Florida to central Kentucky. It weighs approximately 160 lbs. I looked into U-Ship and they want more than the rear end is worth.
Any ideas?

I had a '68 LeSabre rear shipped from Missouri to Brooklyn and it cost around $200. Regular trucking company on a pallet, Expensive but worth it at the time.

I’ve head a lot of people shipping big stuff with fastenal

I don't know if this would work or not for you. But my buddy who is very resourceful (aka: cheap) figured out that oftentimes you can ship larger items very affordably on a Greyhound bus. The catch is that it will get delivered to the nearest Greyhound bus station where the recipient would need to go pick it up.

My friend shipped me an Elliptical trainer that he no longer wanted. He disassembled it and shipped me in a box, all of the pieces. But the frame was too large to box up. So that part shipped from Charleston, SC to Cleveland, OH. via Greyhound. When it arrived, I went there and picked it up.

He's also shipped body panels like fenders and doors and bumpers to other people using this method as well.

Might be worth looking in to.

Good Luck!

Used to be a company called Forward Air that was relatively affordable, basically did depot to depot.

Depending on level of trust you muggy find a longerstanding board member who is going near that route already and will haul for some fuel money and a bit on top for making the detour

That is what I was hoping for. Someone leaving central Florida and going up I 75 through Kentucky.

All of the above are good choices/possibilities. I don't think Greyhound will ship anything that heavy and size but you can always check. Forward air is good, you'll have to drive it to your local major airport and it will end at the closest airport on the receiving side...

look up your local craigslist for backloads and shipping services. Might try the same for the Kentucky craigslist location. I shipped a car Miami-New York on a backload for $400 a couple of years back.

Fastenal is another decent option if you have a location somewhat near you.

Yep, I worked for Fastenal years back and had guys all the time shipping stuff from state to state. The catch is the item will travel through the hub routes just like all their other products. If it's packaged tight on a pallet you shouldn't have an issue. There are plenty of Fastenal locations throughout central KY (I live in Louisville and am in central KY almost weekly). Several locations in Lexington, Berea, Mt Vernon, Somerset, etc etc.
Go on fastenal.com and look for 3PL, basically 3rd party logistics. You'll have to email them for a shipping quote, but they're pretty quick. I shipped a fiberglass hood from here to MN, was basically two skids due to height and it was only $60.
Hope this helps.
