I have a trunklid on Craigslist and a guy in New Hampshire needs it pretty bad. He wants me to ship it but I am unsure how to do that. Wrap it in cardboard? Wood frame? Bubble wrap? Being an ex-mailman I dread what would happen to it without major protection. Who could ship it cheapest? UPS? Fed-Up?

Crate it or it'll be damaged more than likely.

I've used ABF freightlines for stuff like this with good success. They'll do terminal to terminal for a very good price. The recipient would have to pick it up at their closest terminal, but a trunklid shouldn't be horrible to do. I've done hoods, wheels, and transmissions without issues. www.abfs.com

Your closest one I think would be at 414 Maspeth Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11211. Off of Grand to Morgan next to Newtown Creek. In New Hampshire, there's a terminal near the Manchester airport. Which in NH, everything is close to Manchester!!! I used to live in Portsmouth and Dover, NH when I was in the Navy doing the shipyard thing. So I know it's never far to Manchester. Unless he lives WAY far north.

Just some options.

I'm sure you could use any freight line that doesn't require full truckloads.

If it's a trunklid I'd simply put up a small box frame and use slats like a chicken crate. I had an old piece of 1/4" plywood I cut the slats from. This way you'll have something to tie the lid to and get plenty of Styrofoam blocks or other padding to ensure crap don't get dented. And it won't be too heavy. Weight and size makes a huge difference on your freight charges. It just depends on how well you want to protect it. I've put ram air hoods in their own solid sided "coffins" to protect the fiberglass from damage. Although that's extreme.

If you use just a pallet, you'll risk other crap from falling on it. Just a thought.

I know that place! I had a '68 Buick LaSabre rear sent on a pallet from Arizona and I picked it up in Brooklyn. Regardless of who ships it I would need to box it up securely. I can get big sheets of cardboard from behind some stores and build a box. Line it with 1/2" foam insulation board. Stuff the corners with padding. The guy definitely wants it so I asked him exactly where he is. Once I know I'll go from there.

Don't accept paypal for payment if your going to ship it.

When it shows up looking like a crushed coke can you will be out the $$ and the lid

Have him call Uship it, yes the ones on tv's Shipping Wars. I sold a 1971/76 posi rearend B/C body (88/98). The guy was in Florida, I'm in Ohio. I had told the guy if I had to crate it, it'd be extra. He told me not to crate it. He'd used them a few times with success. A guy from Pittsburgh showed up on time. I had it hanging on my picker with an extra long arm. He was a "big" guy with bad wheels (legs) and heart. I positioned it near the passenger side of his one ton Ford van. Set it down, unhooked it for him (I am 25 years older than him) took pictures of it loaded and his plate number. He gave me the paperwork, thanked me and took off. It was a Wednesday at 5pm, rearend was delivered at 9am Friday. He had a few other things stopping along the way. $250. I thought it was a fair price.

He's in Conrad NH. I may just go the UPS hub and let them do it. I believe everything is automatically insured for $100. I boxed it up and it weighs 30 lbs.

And off it goes. FedUp wanted $45 and that is what he chose. I boxed it up with a huge slab of cardboard and padded it with leftover sheets of 1/2" house insulation board and a whole roll of packing tape. All that is left is for FedUp not to destroy it in the process.
