Pitney Bowes shiping on ebay... The image says it all. I can't blame the seller, because he does not see this. But if I were a seller, I'd like to know that the eBay / Pitney guys are shipping a tiny DIESEL emblem into a 4x4x4-inch box. Which is why I did it - sent the image below to the seller.

I'm not following what your question/issue is? Who is Pitney Bowes?

Not sure I understand it myself. Looks like an ebay, centralized shipping solution handled by Pitney-Bowes called "Global shipping" by ebay -- used when a US seller sends items from US to Canada.

From my perspective, they charge "import fees" which I never paid before, and they over-package items which end up costing a lot of money in shipping fees.

Some of you may or may not know this but Ebay marks up all shipping. If you buy something on Ebay we all know the seller pays in most cases 10% of the cost to Ebay for there service but if you click on the shipping tab Ebay calculates shipping with a mark up for themselves. So if you want to save money contact the seller and arrange shipping between you and them and you will save money.

I've sold on e-bay and usually in my description I tell the potential buyers NOT to pay until I send them an invoice with actual shipping costs, not the inflated ones evilbay calculates. On the flip side, I've had them calculate way too low to cover actual shipping and not allow me to insert correct higher amount.

Amazing thing is, despite me telling buyers to wait until invoiced to receive the lower shipping charges, many have paid instantly upon winning and paid too much. Of course, its happened the other way as well and they've underpaid shipping. 🙁

This is why if it fits in a USPS flat rate box, I ship that way. I click economy shipping and put the rate in on the ad myself. I charge a buck or 2 more for the shipping then the postage will cost to cover any incidentals. So far, no complaints, no issues. Also with usps, free insurance up to $50.

Not sure of the Question.

But when I personally sell things on eBay, I do research on how much it will Cost to Ship, then I add a few bucks to it. That Total is what I list as the Shipping Cost.

You might be say that I'm over-charging, but the last time I checked, Boxes aren't Free & neither is the Gas that goes in my Truck.

I've seen this on ebay over the last little bit...for international shipments...looks like the seller sends/takes the item and a third party ships it out. I was wondering what that would be like and looking at the pics I think I got my answer. And those import fees go up as the bids get higher on the item.

I've noticed that when it's a "buy it now" option, ebay has changed and you can't buy without paying immediately...

The Forum has been much more favorable to me than EBay. If I search on EBay for a car part, I find 1200 light bulbs, valve stem caps, etc. and if I'm lucky, one instance of the part I seek. EBay is trying to be Amazon. 'Smart' people figured out a few years back that they could charge $0.01 for something, and $50.00 to ship it, bypassing the EBay fees on final value. So now EBay charges a cut on the shipping as well. Buyer gets mugged. Seller gets mugged. And EBay rolls along. So, no wonder it looks like the calculators jack the shipping prices up. If you find a responsive seller on EBay, and are careful in how you propose the deal, some are happy to move over to a private sale. No protection, but no fees on either end. Of course, EBay threatens booting you. Hasn't happened yet.

However. I am two hours from decent salvage yards. Half a day round-trip. $50 in gas. So, it's a trade-off. USPS flat rate boxes are great for heavy items, if they fit.

I'll say it again. I've had great luck buying and selling on the forum. Only one instance of a seller who fell off the world and took my money with him. Fortunately, I only lost $25. O.D. Showtime came to my rescue with better versions of the same parts, even with shipping from Canada, it worked out great. Twice. Thanks, Kevin! I have also had two good sales with Tobyp, another recommended seller. Thanks Toby! Keep up the magic on the GN! I personally like to see when the parts I buy fund parts the seller needed to finish up their project. That's profit I can live with!!!
