Okay so I've been working on my old cutlass and I finally get it running decent when I developed a skip. I believe it is a short somewhere cause it cuts all power to the motor. I've looked and checked everything I can think of but I can't figure it out. Can someone please give me some ideas on what it could possibly be I'm starting to get desperate.

I originally thought it was my power wire going to my coil cause it felt like a complete loss of power. I hooked my voltage meter to it tho and I never seen a drop in it.

Anyone have any ideas on this? I'm supposed to go on a cruise this weekend so I kinda wanna get that fixed.

If you are still running the ECM controlled distributor, it could be the Electronics Module in the distributor going bad. Symptom is that motor just quits randomly, but the starter will still function( just won't start again for a while). They can be tested at your local auto parts store for free- just make them do at least 3-4 runs to get it hot. It's the heat that kills them. If you install a new one, be sure to use the Heat Sink Grease that comes with it.

I've thought about the switch but I run my meter to the power wire coming from the switch and when it would start the skipping it would never show so I eliminated that. I have have an aftermarket accel distributor that pretty new so I dont think it would be that. It just started a couple weeks ago and it's driving me up the wall.
