Should I Buy?

out of province safety so i'd have to safety it here.

1980 grand prix, little to no rust, good frame, shabby interior, good tires, 455 rocket (oils clean), over 150000km on body, brakes are alright, newer flowmaster dual exhaust. centerline rims, cd player, leaky transmission (comes with replacement gasket)

asked 2650, willing to take my offer of 1750.....

what do you guys think?

please respond, I have to decide tonight!

sounds like a steal, i would go get it if i was you 😀

I'm very new to cars and this guy doesnt seem to be much of a mechanic (although a very nice guy.) I've taken it for a test drive and it runs and sounds nice. my main concern is the transmission (since it leaks) also he said something about having to manually down shift as well? saying it had something to do with the carb needing a rebuild. All that being said I have a family freind mechanic who is more than fair and i have 750 to 1000 to put into it. Think thats enough?

It really is a risk to buy any used car, but I think I would leave this one where it is. But, if you are funded and equipped for a project it can be a real learning experience. Bring your mechanic friend with you next time you look at it and get his opinion on the condition and whether the car is worth it or not. Good luck.

Won't downshift when you floor it, because the carb transmission connection has a vacuum leak in it. Lift carpet and also check under trunk carpet for rust. Check frame, get under the car, jack it up on each side, and look at the frame front to back with a flashlight if you have to. Canadian g-bodys frames are known to rust and rot. If that's in good shape you got a great deal.

455 will eat gas, interior will be expensive to clean up. transmission can be had reasonably cheap. But if the car is truelly rust free, really rust free, absolutely rust free, then it could be a great project.

Yup thats it, the thing is Im just looking for something to mess around with maybe do some minor things to it this summer, and with my budget being low Im not really looking for a total resto project or something already restored. All goes well I think Im gonna grab it tonight. Thanks for the input.

iwould be all over that if i were you! GP's are awesome 8)
