Looks to me like he just wants more filter area being that he has a cowl hood. If its sealed I don't see how it could hurt.

When i put that cowl hood I wanted to go with a taller air filter since the cowl is functional, since there wasn't one at the local part store i just stack them, same effect not as sexy though
