Side exit exhaust

Did you mean that only behind the rear tire won't fill the car with fumes?

Ford Pickups and Boss 302 Mustangs are both recent cars that have had exhaust in front of the rear tire. I wouldn't do it without a Cat, but its been done.

Don't know how we all survived the early 1970's with side pipes and no cats as Dealer options on most "performance" cars.

I did mine with a turbo flow coming out each side behind and parallel to the rear tire tread on the side. Tucked up nicely. Sounds good and neat

Thinking about redoing the exhaust on my Elco this winter, with as few bends in the pipe as possible.

Why are you trying to reduce the number of bends? I am guessing you're trying to minimize power loss. If I am correct, my advice is simple: spend a few more bucks and buy an exhaust system with mandrel bends. The constant-diameter pipes will cost you virtually no power loss whatsoever.

You have to go pretty fast before even Non mandrel bent 2.5" duals becomes a restriction. My Buick has gone 11.50's @ 118mph on radials thru full stock exit exhaust 2.5" non-mandrel bent duals. There was zero difference in speed going out a dump behind the front tire.

That isn't to say a poorly put together system with restrictive mufflers won't slow a car down, because it totally will. It's just not only the lack of mandrel bends doing it.
