I have wireless internet for my pc and the provider has sent out a new modem for free cause the signal to the current modem is going to be dropped in the near future. This new modem comes with a sim card and I'd like to know what the sim card records. They are now going to start charging for data above a certain threshold but I don't think they need a sim card for that. The modem is mobile and I can use it anywhere there is a signal so does that sim card track where the modem is?

It probably just has your account info in it. I doubt it records anything except usage data. Technically it *could* (and might) record rough location data based on what tower(s) its connecting to.

Thanks, I'm not paranoid but I like to know what's what. I'll take off my aluminium hat now...

Email or call and ask the provider. You have the right to know.

Yes I probably could call them and if I could ever talk to a real person there I probably wouldn't be able to understand their version of English... :?

Most cell phones up here use those cards.
