I know its not a g-body but im already registered here and i figuerd you guys would know. Im a chevy guy so i dont know to much about these motors. I figured out the problem, its a broken cam. Believe it or not i got it to start off of the first 2 cylnders, surprised me. Where is the oil pump located? Is it in the front near the distributor or is it ran off of anything else. I have read several articles on GM makeing weak cams but i dont know which years. Also do you guys know what year motors are compatible. Sorry for all the questions just dont want to have to do a complete rebuild on this motor.

Oil pump is external. Its right behind the filter, which is on the pass side front. Its distributor driven. both distributor and oil pump are contained in the timing cover. Buick 350s aren't particularly known for breaking cams, so your just lucky I guess.

And, oil pumps and yiming covers from V-6's and 350's are a swap. If you knock it apart, get cam bearings, or at least the front one for a late or turbo V-6, it has an oil groove in the back side.

Please look up the following sites for help with your Buick V8:

These guys are Buick V8 experts and will tell you every trick there is to getting it going again!

DO NOT just slap the engine together like everyone with an sbc does! You will waste your time and money when it blows up shortly thereafter! These (and Olds/Cadillac/Pontiac engines as well) engines require special care and special mods to be reliable under heavy duty usage. This does not cost boat loads of money, contrary to popular chevy opinion; it will require lots of time to do it right, though.

Good luck, man!

P.S. If you decide not to hassle with it, don't forget to put it up for sale so that one of us can buy it!! Thanks!!

Actually I kinda want to get rid of it cause I just dont have the money anymore. Besides the motor and the quarter panels, the car is in good shape. The interior looks like new, the seats were reupholstered right before i got it, the dash dont have a single crack. Oh and i forgot to mention I looked at the title and its a '72

What zip code is the car in? Where exactly? Are you going to part it out?
Is the title clear?

How much do you have in it?

You may get more for it posting it on eBay with no reserve than selling it on a forum. Generally guys here are on a budget, too, and they are looking for the smoking deal.

I know because I am looking too!

So? Got any answers to the above questions?

The car is in Kokomo, In but I dont think i can let it go quite yet sorry. I hate trying to sell things its just such a hassel. So im going to hold on to it and see if any options open up. Im not saying if the right guy came arround and offered me a price I couldnt resist that I wouldnt let it go but, i dont see that happening. Sorry bud, thanks for the interest tho.
