the sound is a slight ting chatter noise at idle and at take off louder but diminishes around 35-45 in away... i checked rotor,it wasnt loose , so could it be rocker arm loose? it's the passenger side to the back sounds like it's coming from the motor is 307 '85-90'

i know when i put my cutlass together it had a tick in it and it was a rocker arm was either to tight or to loose i dont remember exactly so you might want to check there and you might want to check the lifters

I ran into a similar situation on a SBC and chased it all over the engine. I was convinced it was in the valve train. Turned out to be a broken spring in the fuel pump.

Could be a cracked exhaust manifold. I think those stock Olds manifolds are designed to crack.

fixed

good ideas ..but i found out the issue ..the 02 sensor shot out it wasnt hooked up but that's what the noise was, and also found out that the valve hooked to the driver manifold that suppose to be vacuumed operated well it wasnt hooked up the lever was in close position so all this time driving that's been close , but i got some wire and tied it down to keep it open. car drives better an more responsive but think i need to re time the motor again low rpm take offs it seems very slow then once in midrange rpm runs good
