I wish I could afford to drive my Cutlass every day, but sadly, even my 4 cyl truck costs me $500-600 a month in gas since I drive 40k miles a year....

Still sport'n the V6/2.41 axle? I remember driving mine that was on a trip from FL to NY and getting 29 mpg highway. Now it may have only gotten 14mpg in the city, but it was really good highway.

No, it's got the crap-o-matic 307 in it. It's a V8, but the power feels like a crappy 4 banger. The rear gears are 2.14 or 2.41 ... I can't remember which, but it's on the build sheet I found in the trunk. Either way, gears like that = good gas mileage if you stay out of the throttle. Yeah the 27 mpg came from hwy useage, but the city is like you said around 15 or 16 mpg.

My 1989 VW golf (gas engine, not desiel) gets over 30 mpg in ctiy with driving like all of us guys love to drive  (the gas pedal should stay stuck to the floor, right? lol) I have gotten close to 40 mpg in city before, but driving like that was no fun. lol But hears the kicker, My 2 door golf wieghs about 3200 pounds. I have allways wondered what mileage it would get if it where 1000 pounds lighter. But then I think about how much safer it is to have all that steel between me and the next car.

And as far as the mustangs getting heavier, Its because they are now a full frame car, when they used to be a sub frame car, thus the wieght increase, thats also why they are safer then ever before.

have any of u guys ever worked on a smart car??? Everything costs 2 or 3 times as much to do, oil changes have to be done by sucking the old oil out through the dipstick tube, for headlights, you basically have to disassemble the front of the car, everything is costly with those cars.
