Snap-on scanner questions

I have an MT2500 scanner and the cartridges only cover up to 2001. I need something up to at least 2005, but 2012 would be better. As I understand, they went to a reprogrammable cartridge, that gets updated every year by a Snap-on guy for around $500 on top of the initial cost. These I rarely see for sale and those that are were only updated to 2003 or so. Then there is a Global/OBD2/CAN stand alone cartridge that covers from 1996 to 2009 but it is supposedly only as good as those generic $100 scanners you can get at Sears or AutoZone. I see these go for $100 and up on EPAY but are they worth it? Are they any better than an Actron, Cen-tech or other brand? Is there a cartridge I am unaware of that covers up to 2005?

You need to befriend someone with a Solus, or one of the better versions. I sold my 2500 got a Solus. If you lived closer, I'd do it for you. I scan all of my friends junk free of charge....Hmmm, maybe THAT'S why I have so many friends, it isn't ME at all!!!

Ha Ha! Yeah, I got lots of friends that way too. Actually my buddies are getting a Solus or the other good one soon and said I could use it, but I hate bothering them at a busy shop. Not to mention that it is hard to get a no-start condition over there. Maybe they will sell me the old model.

otc and genisys are both supposed to be pretty good, and much cheaper than snap-on

Well, I already have the scanner, so all I need is the cartridge to get up to speed. Maybe can get something cheap on EPAY.

OK, I see some Global/OBD2/CAN cartridges for sale. Now, do they just plug in and work, or do I need anything else, like a personality key or adapter? Reason I ask is I had my shop buddy use his scanner on my 05' Cobalt and he had the programmables and to access the OBD2/CAN function he had to use an adapter and key#2. The sellers "say" the Global/OBD2/CAN is a stand alone but is it really?

I have personality keys with my Solus. I do not know if the 2500 series goes deep into 2000-2012. For more info hit Snap-on on the wab, or stop the next truck. I've been buyin Snap -on for 30 years, they have great service, in my opinion
