I've got my eye on a Canadian car on BAT. In normal (non-pandemic) times I'm aware generally of what it takes to import to the US.

The car is a 1979 so the various epa statements and such aren't an issue due to the 25 year rules.

But, looking over Canada's rules due to Covid, I can't find anything hard and firm about entry, or exemptions for someone who was double vaccinated back in March.

Asked seller what they may be willing to do to get the car over the border, but, sounds like they said they could bring it to the border but not across.

(Pembina crossing as it is a Manitoba car.)

Google is my enemy. Everything I try to Google to research anyone reputable as a broker to bring it across the hour or so from the seller to the crossing just gives me junk articles about what you need to to, often in the late model context, for a car import. Not even good resources to find brokers to do something with it.

I figure once I had my hands on the car I could load it on a trailer behind the yukon and haul it home in 3 easy days or so of driving.

Import duties don't look to be too high either between exemptions and only having a 2.5% tax rate after the first 800. Absent some last minute bids going crazy I don't see it selling very high either. Not much interest from many on there, even the comments are dull/dead.

In a pre-covid world I'd tow it home going over the border and all. These days they doesn't SOUND like an option, both from admission standpoint and then quarantine mandates that me tion exemptions but don't seem to spell out clearly what they are.

Just a rant/vent since I may need to pass on the car due to the complexities, and, an open question to see if anyone may have info on what may be possible....

Borders are closed.

Here's who I used to import my wagon:

It wasn't cheap.

Border is absolutely closed to non essential or non-commercial travel. It must be the Firechicken you are looking at. I wonder what the Reserve is on this auction.. Humm

It is. I looked at many blue late 2nd generation before buying my maroon 78z years back. This one I wouldn't feel bad about customizing, and has lots of new parts I could reuse while not feeling bad about doing it.

Color changes are a PITA compared to touching up something that's already the colors you want, and the new interior work is a nice bonus.

I'd think the reserve is fairly low for three reasons - 1) there's nothing special about the car model/trim wise; 2) it admittedly needs work - paint is driver quality, heat & ac non functional, godawful air cleaner, tires 6+ years old, etc; 3) the BAT bids are in USD which gives a bonus over a possible local/CDN pricing sale. If the seller is reasonable I'd think the reserve is only a few thousand more away.

I would say wait until August, to see if things open up, unless you are serious and use a moving company like Mike suggested.

Boarder is closed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to Ameicans for non essential travel and Canadians that are trying to get vaccinated cannot travel across the boarder as well because if your only reason is to get your needle you will be turned back! if you get the car maybe someone in Manitoba could store it for you until the boarder opens up I might be able to help depending where the car is good luck Jeff from Winnipeg

The price was OK, although it didn't hit reserve. I may reach out to the seller and see what their thoughts are at.

I don't like to half-*** things and if ducks can't be in a row ahead of time, well, I won't just bid and hope to figure it out later.

The couple brokers I found and reached out to didn't get back to me I time, so, with no way to retrieve the thing I let this one go. For now.
