hey guys, i have a problem with my 383 stroker. the spark plugs i am currently running are accel header plugs, i gapped them at 45 although the old ones were gapped at 35. the carb is poping on me now. what size should they be gapped at? also i am doing a msd ignition 6al kit, do you guys think these E3 plugs will work good and do you need to gap E3 plugs? http://www.jegs.com/i/E3-Spark-Plugs/368/E3.46/10001/-1

thanks for the help, Steve

Standard HEI ignition? Did this issue just start after the plug change? If the popping started after the plug change, I'd suspect a bad plug. I've gapped my plugs anywhere from .035 to .060 with a standard HEI an noticed no noticeable difference.

make sure all your plug wires are separated. A plug improperly gaped plug will affect performance and a dead plug will cause a misfire. Crossed wires can cause cross fire induction and a plug can be fired when the intake valve is open causing a backfire through the carb.

It started after the plug swap. I think I am going to gap at 35 again. I want to know if those e3 plugs I listed will go good with my new msd 6a ignition set up
Thanks.

if it started right after the plug change check to make sure your wires or on the right plugs and separate the wires like I suggested

Make sure that the wires are firmly attached to each plug, you need to be able to feel the wire end clip onto the plug. I have had to gently squeeze the end to get it tight on the plug terminal. Make sure you feel the terminal go on and not just the resistance from the boot. Also make sure the wires are hooked to the correct plugs, it can happen to the best of us. Is the popping happening at idle, under load, part load? any certain engine speed? A little more info might help somebody figure something out.

Hey guys, I have fixed the issue, the distributor hold down had lossened up and the timing had moved. I re timed the engine it is fine now. Thanks for the help guys.
