Damn, you were right about being 110% sure. I was 90% sure I had a 10 tooth drive gear and it turns out I have a 13 tooth drive gear.
Which would require a (nonexistent) 36 tooth driven gear. So I have to change the drive gear anyway. After it only took 10 minutes to swap the driven gear, I knew this couldn't be that simple!

Geese,
Don't sweat it, you can have the tail shaft off, the drive gear switched out and the tail shaft back on is less than 45 min. max. Just remember to have a little gasket sealer goop to put on the tail shaft flange before you bolt it back up.

Sorry to bring a post back from the dead, but I have a question. The speedo qui working in my cutlass, its definitely the gears inside the tailshaft. I have a BOP TH350 so it has the larger speedo bullet.

My question is, will a tailshaft off of a chevy TH350 bolt up and work??? I just need to get my speedo working again, and dont care if it is off a few MPH.

wow, i totally forgot about this thread, now i remember to add that to the list of stuff i gotta do to get this elky runnin.
