Hello

I've been struggling with a transmission leakage at the speedocable hookup at the transmission. This is a TH350 BOP trans. I've changed the speedocable, gear and gear housing. The O-ring on the outside of the gear housing was replaced as well.

I did not, however, change the seal inside the gear housing where the gear slots through. A replacement did not come in the package unfortunately.

In an ongoing effort to stop this infernal leaking, and narrowing it down, I have two questions:

1.) Does the speedocable itself (the screw-on part to the transmission) have ANY leak stop function, or should it (in theory) not leak no matter how loose/hard it's screwed on to the transmission?

2.) Is there supposed to be an on ring in the speedocable as well? Inside the part that is screwed onto the transmission?

Tommy

Try replacing the center speedo seal in the gear fixture. Although I haven't had much luck with those. I've replaced the seal and actually added another one...it still drips. :x

That there is some baaad engineering 🙂
I wouldnt say its bad engineering but rather no one has found the solution  My TH400 has leaked since I got it. I have put 3 pan gaskets in it, 2 rear seals and it still leaks from both.

It seems like a problem a lot of us have. And when it's just a 50/50 chance of stopping the leak (or thereabouts) even when you change all the related parts, this qualifies as bad engineering from where I stand.

Don't get me wrong - I love the car. Just slightly demotivating to crawl under for the n-th time to try fix this leak 🙂 And where I live, getting hold of some of these "detail" parts, like "a small seal that goes into the gear housing", can be somewhat of a challenge.

tell me about it!! i have the same problem, my dayum drive way is soaked with transmission fluid, everything is new as well, I just siliconed it and it stopped  ...i was so tired of seen it all over da place, i think it was a recall on those th350 trans

Haha, I understand completely 8)

Maybe if I create my own seal with some RTV, molded in the old gearhousing with the old gear in place? Hmm, you gave me an idea there. Got to stop this infernal leak somehow. I've had the car for 11 years (most of it spent in storage), and this leak has ALWAYS been there. I refuse to leave it leaking! 🙂

So, to answer my initial question: I gather from the feedback that the speedocable does not have any sealing function at all, and its the seals/gaskets that leaks?
