wierd

ya i didnt get a chance to pull out the unit yesterday to have a look at it.

I'm not sure id know what i was looking for anyway or how to take it out without breaking it. Any help on this would be appreciated.

I'm just wondering that if the police pull me over for speeding, if i can use the excuse of a broken speedo haha.

haha

haha yeah fix it tickets are not fun.

i remember i was driving my moms 95 saturn a couple of years back and the thing burns so much oil that the motor was just about dead. It kept bucking as it would gum up the plugs so i used to have to floor it to keep it going on the highway.

All of a sudden it starts to happen in a 60 zone, and so i floor it just to get it to kick in again, as soon as it starts to work, and before i could let off on the gas again, i see lights ans hear sirens.

After getting told off for accelerating like a maniac and driving dangerously i tried to explain the problem. It did little to help me out, as he proceeded to tell me that it was illegal to drive a car that didn't work properly and still gave me a ticket. lol.

Nehow, lets home i get this fixed before i get pulled over for driving to slow, lol. I mean it shows im doing 40 at a stop light now, haha. Cheers!

i do not think that there is a spring that pulls it back but i could be wrong. i thought it was a weighted assembly type of thing in there..... i think i read th above wrong, it wont drop under 40? i was thinking it stopped at 40 and would not go any further....

A mechanical speedometer uses a coiled spring, like you would find in a watch to return it to zero. It gains speed because of a bell shaped piece of steel that is directly attached to the needle, and in this bell spins a magnet that is not physically connected to it. The magnet spins faster because of input from the cable, and this causes the bell to move and with it, the needle. This is how a mechanical speedo works.
