hey Im new here...
Always had love for the g bodys but never had one...I've seen for the past year a hurts olds 442 sitting off to the side of a drive way at some one on my routes house...Looks like it needs a little work not to clear I havent gone right up to it...I wanna ask the customer about it...What would be a fair offer...its been sitting atleast 2 years outside...how much do these cars go for?

If it has been sitting in the weeds for a couple of years it is probably extremely rotted out on the bottom of the car. You will probably be looking at replacing all of the brake and fuel lines, exhaust, floors, maybe even the gas tank.

I am not sure how much pretty clean ones go for, but I doubt that this one would be worth over $1000 bucks. I would think more in the 6-700 dollar range if its in bad shape under the car. If it looks clean under it you can probably go higher.

I agree with Dan's assesment. If its a real 442 its pretty hard to go wrong with $600 because if it has the 8.5 rear its worth that much plus what the rest of the car is worth parted out. Wheels, OZ/KZ transmission, console, ralley guages, door panels, chrome air breather etc. The thing about a real Hurst or even 442 is you can afford to put a little more into restoring as you will get more out of it if and when you sell it down the road.

odds are if it has been sitting there for over two years the car is either in such bad condition that nobody wants it or the owner of the car knows what they have and is asking way to much money for it, it's worth asking but that's my .02

If you are looking for one of those, i got a hurst olds 15th anv, it got the lightning rods and t-tops its a solid car i will take about 3k for it price negotiable. need to sell fast.

Now now you guys, you can't be so quick to jump to the conclusion that a car is next to junk just because it's been sitting for a couple of years.

He said nothing about his location. Is the car in Minnesota, where the most common G-body modification is bungie cords to hold your rear bumper on? Or is the car in Texas, where the paint is baked, but the sheet metal is as nice as the day it rolled off the assembly line?
There's also a difference between along side a driveway, and what people think of when they hear "in the weeds" where they invision a car sunk in the mud up to its rocker panels and grass up to the windows.
My Cutlass wagon sat in a junkyard for 7 years, and aside from the spider webs, the thing is so mint underneath you could eat off of it. This one might be mint. It might be shot. It's hard to tell from my computer chair.

It's really hard to say what it may be worth without knowing what year it is, and really having a good perspective on the overall condition of the car. Is it a Hurst/Olds, or is it a 442? They are two different models. Chances are that the car sits there because everybody else that has ever asked about the car has lowballed for a few hundred bucks like everybody else is suggesting, and tried to get the car for next to nothing. People like that, even if they are inclined to sell, are usually insulted by offers like that, and end up telling everybody to take a hike. Like mentioned before, if it is an '84 H/O, or an '85-'87 442, the rear end alone would be worth $700+. If it's an '83 or '84 H/O, the Lightning Rods would probably bring another $350+. Chances are, the owner knows what he has.

I say definately ask the guy about it, and don't mention a price right away. They know what it is. It might not even be for sale. If it is, let him tell you about it, and then ask him what he might like to get for it. Also ask him if you can take some pictures for us.

Don't be so quick to judge without seeing the car everybody. It's easy for your imagination to run wild with the image of that faded old Hurst sitting in the weeds...

id say 1000.00 they would prolly take it

I've bought a few cars like this, your best bet is to play it off like you are mildly interested even though its like haunting your dreams and you need to own it. Knock on the door and just be like hi I work the route by your house and saw that your car has been sitting a while and wanted to know if you'd be interested in getting rid of it. Then after you go thoroughly look at it and find everything that's wrong I sometimes even point them out tot the owner in a friendly and respectful manner ask him what he thinks is fair and go from there. If he's nuts walk away if he wants you to make an offer tell him you don't want to insult him and then offer like 6 or 7 hundred and then take it from there. Who knows maybe he blew the engine and he's lookin for 500 bucks because he thinks its worthless, I got my 77 Trans Am SE w72 that way.

I've actually found a GN almost the same way up here. Its been sitting in the alley behind a guys house for over a year now without even moving. It's sitting out in the middle of a blizzard as we speak. Worst thing is the body and paint look increadable (from a half a block away anyway). Only reason I haven't went up knockn on his door yet is I haven't had the extra $$$$ to be serious. It sucks but believe this summer I'm gonna try. As far as a car sittin, could be alot of reasons, but if it's been there for a while there's usually a good chance the owner might be willing to do something with it. And I too believe location makes a HUGE difference. What if it's sittin beside a garage in Arizona or somethin??? Bet it's worth takin a closer look at
