I'm building an SS clone out of an '85 Monte ls and just realized that I need a few frame braces. Does anybody know what braces came stock on the SS, where they go, and if they are necessary? Pics would be very helpful also.

I'm not sure if the SS's had these, but they are standard on Pontiacs and Buicks.

These rad support braces are handy as well, and easy to make yourself

these were stamped steal braces behind the seats of Grand Prix. The Grand Nationals had tubes instead, same location

and for additional tips, here's a thread a fellow member created, with pictures.

Thanks that really helped. Are the braces solid or tube? If they are tube I'll probably just make them myself.

tube, except the ones behind the seat. But seeing as how the GNs had tubes behind there too, can make those yourself also. Just like the ones infront of the rad shown in the drawing.

... glad to help

Homemade here! measure twice cut once. 🙂

How much do the braces behind the seat help?

i hear they help a lot. I installed mine before i ever really drove the car so i'm not too sure.

If you have T tops the truck ones help with flex . As soft (like to flex ) as these things r from factory any little thing helps .

There is a post showing all that could be had from Factory . As well as some others that will be good to add

And no they r not on all Buick and Pontiac G body
