i can picture exactly where it is in the distributor, but can that still be the problem if that rest of it works fine? :?

depends on how they tested the dist. they may have just tested the adv. mechanisms and the conductivity through the system.
you're nowhere near western CT are you? i have a spare module.
 
Well, don't forget that there is no advance mechanism in a CCC distributor. Did you try testing it with a timing light, clamping each cylinder while cranking to be sure it would blink? Do you have fuel? Look down the carb throat and see if fuel squirts when you pump the throttle. Did it maybe jump timing? If it did, the compression would probably be way off and sub 100psi. Try compression testing one cylinder to see where it is at. Is it flooded? If you think it may be, hold open the choke plate with a screwdriver while depressing the gas pedal to the floor ( don't pump it!) and crank the engine.
