So I go to put the steering shaft back in my car, which is a modified Jeep shaft to fit our cars. I had this shaft on the car with the old F41 steering box so I know it works perfectly fine.
Anyways, I go to put the shaft on the car, and the thing will not fit on the F-body steering box I got from Oreilly's. I compare my original 605 round top steering box to the one that is already painted and on the car, and the input shaft is much larger on the F-body box than the original box. The box is a 27-6550, which the website also lists is the same exact part number for an 87' Grand National.
Doing a little bit of research, it appears that 3rd gen F-bodies had two different input shaft sizes. But what the hell? How does this thing have the same part number as a grand national, which ideally is the same box as the previous F41 box I turned in as a core on this box, and still have a different input shaft size?
Has ANYONE ran into this problem before? I'm seriously about to put the damn round top 605 steering box back on the car so I can at least move it around instead of having to jack it up ever 3 feet to turn the wheels, and lower it so I can push it another 2 feet.
