I was just wondering if anyone has any tips for removing steering wheels and taking the column apart in Regals (mine is a 1986 Limited, tilt column, etc.)

1.) I'm trying to replace the turn signal/wiper lever with an aftermarket piece. The one on the car is broken on the thin end of the chrome part, so everything except the windshield washer still operates (plus all the letters are worn,etc.). I'm not sure how the column comes apart or how much has to be dismantled in order to replace the lever. Are there any special tools needed?

2.) The steering wheel on my car rattles a little bit over bumps. I've heard that there is some sort of clips that goes bad over time that can be replaced. I don't remember where I read that (maybe a Grand National/T Type info page somewhere), but I figure if I'm taking it all apart I could get everything done all at once.

If anyone has done anything with their column/steering wheel and has any good ideas/tips they would be greatly appreciated. This is the first time I've ever taken a steering wheel off.

you need this u shaped tool, i think its just called a sterring column tool that you can get at sears for like 20-25 bucks, it is a must to get that metal plate off, it is pretty much what holds most of it together. columns are not too hard to work with, first time sucks but its a cake walk after that.
