i made a thread named 85 olds 442 runs rough after header bad idel + die in the engine swap forum.
update: fuel filter and o2 sensor replaced, the carb is receiving adequite fuel, and its not getting vapor locked

its still idling really really rough. how can i acess the idle mixture adjusters without taking the carb off. stock 307 carb. they are at the bottom and cant stick a screw driver inthere .. so i think

have the access plates not been knocked out? .... they are in the lower plate and the factory "covers" them so people don't monkey with the setting, but by now most people have knocked those out and you should see 2 screws in the base. I know this photo is the underside but it clearly shows the screws I am speaking of ... with a flexible extension these should be easy to get at

A total newbie like myself would ask you these questions:
-A. Is it cold where you live?
-B. Was it all stock before?
-C. Does the idle improve after driving it for a bit?

If answered yes to all three questions, a newbie like myself would go on to suggest that maybe your engine can't start and maintain running as easily without the stock "cold idle aids".
I don't really remember what's there but I do remember there is some duct work that runs from the manifold to the air box to help heat the air in the winter. I took it off my 307. Still starts okay in warm weather.

Anyway, don't take my word for it.
